Over the past six months, our staff at Brookdale has introduced training on Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD) through our existing programs designed to train workforces in the field of aging. Our involvement with ADRD education stems from a growing concern about the increasing prevalence of ADRD and its impact on older adults, their families and caregivers, and the professionals that serve them. A natural extension of this work is our commitment to collaborating with and supporting other organizations that are leaders in addressing all aspects of ADRD.
On October 16th, we will be participating in the 2016 CaringKind Alzheimer’s Walk in Manhattan. CaringKind (formerly known as the Alzheimer’s Association, NYC Chapter) is an expert on Alzheimer’s and dementia caregiving and provide critical services to people and families affected by a dementia diagnosis in New York City. Their annual walks raise necessary funds to support their free programs and services.
On November 19th, we are partnering with Fuerza Contra Alzheimer’s to host the 2nd National Hispanic Alzheimer’s Conference. The event, featuring speakers in both Spanish and English, is aimed at reaching Latino communities in New York City to increase awareness, knowledge, advocacy, and more. It will be held at 2180 Third Avenue in East Harlem, where Brookdale is also located.
We hope you consider joining us in supporting organizations and important events that work to improve the lives of those affected by ADRD.
