Rights of Older Persons

In 2008, the United Nations drafted a Convention on the Rights of Older Persons. Brookdale strongly supports this framework and is pursuing projects that enact this framework. New York State is pioneering a structured process to establish an alternative to guardianship; Brookdale is deeply involved in this effort. Similarly, we are strong partners with advocates around the state to end needless long-term incarceration of older adults by enacting elder parole. These projects build on Brookdale’s decades of work supporting the rights of older adults by training elder law attorneys and social workers.
