Ruth Finkelstein, Brookdale’s executive director, was quoted in a New York Times story by Brian J. O’Connor on planning how to spend one’s time after retirement, given that retirees in good health may have 20–30 years ahead (July 18, 2026; in print July 26, Sunday Business, p. 4). Dr. Finkelstein said that planning for a longer life should include planning for a time when we’ll need more help. Moreover, a long, healthy retirement is not a universal experience. “Low-wage workers are facing exactly the same retirement they always have,” she said.
