“Age discrimination kicks too many people out of the labor force before they are ready to leave,” Ruth Finkelstein told Jarrett Murphy of City Limits in a March 29 story about aging policy in New York City. Older adults’ potential contributions to both the workplace and the community are important to recognize as the city’s population ages.
As New York nears the June 22 primaries for mayor, city council, and other offices, the conversation is expanding on a variety of issues related to aging—not only challenges, such as food insecurity, housing instability, and the digital divide, but also opportunities. As mentioned in the article, Brookdale will join LiveOn NY, City Limits, and others in sponsoring a virtual forum with mayoral candidates on The Future of Aging in NYC on April 14.
The City Limits story also links to the video of a March panel for journalists about aging issues, which was moderated by Jarrett Murphy. Brookdale’s director of strategic policy initiatives, christian gonzález-rivera, took part in that panel.
