Brookdale executive director Ruth Finkelstein and christian gonzález-rivera, director of strategic policy initiatives, spoke with Gail Robinson for City Limits (December 8) about older workers facing unwanted early retirement. “Evidence is pretty clear that when an older worker loses their job they are unlikely to get a job at a similar pay rate for a very long time,” says gonzález-rivera. New York City is considering policies that would encourage early retirement for city employees, but other proposals could benefit older adults who stay in the workforce, as well as their employers.
