Mark Brennan-Ing takes part in national HIV and aging policy development panels

Mark Brennan-Ing, senior research scientist at Brookdale, was a member of two groups that were recently convened to address policy and program gaps affecting people aging with HIV.

Dr. Brennan-Ing was a member of the Grantmakers in Aging “Moving Ahead Together” steering committee, an initiative designed to bring together healthcare, HIV, and aging social services to improve the well-being of people with HIV, as well as break down silos between these different service sectors. This work was organized around three focus areas: 1) the complexity and challenges of addressing HIV and aging, 2) integrating and improving care and services, and 3) the way forward through policy initiatives. A report on this work and the specific policy recommendations offered is available through the Grantmakers in Aging website.

On November 17 and 18, Dr. Brennan-Ing participated in an HIV and aging virtual technical expert panel hosted by the HIV/AIDS Bureau of the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This two-day panel was charged with making policy and program recommendations to address the healthcare and psychosocial needs of Ryan White AIDS Program participants age 50 and older, and to examine strategies, barriers, and exemplary models for providing services and developing the healthcare workforce.
