Brookdale’s policy director, christian gonzález-rivera, is one of five Grove Leaders participating in the Eva Kastan Grove Fellowship Program at Hunter College’s Roosevelt House. The Grove Fellowship is a competitive program for Hunter College undergraduates who are interested in public policy and human rights. He has introduced two cohorts of fellows to aging policy and led two projects with Hunter students participating in the program.

In 2020, gonzález-rivera led a group of five Hunter students who presented recommendations to elected officials at the city and state levels on how to combat age discrimination in the workplace. He also introduced broad concepts of aging to the full cohort of 25 students and introduced them to a panel of employers and lawyers working to combat age discrimination.

In 2022, he led a group of four Hunter students on an exploration of public policy communications through the lens of aging policy. Students learned skills for communicating some of the important issues facing older adults today to various audiences.
