Brookdale team presents at State Society on Aging conference

Brookdale staff members gave several presentations at the 47th Annual Conference of the State Society on Aging of New York, which took place October 29-30, 2019, in Saratoga Springs.

Christian González-Rivera, Brookdale’s director of strategic policy initiatives, is serving as SSA’s president in 2019 and 2020, and he facilitated a workshop on resources for older adults who are outside of the traditional aging services system. González-Rivera also moderated a symposium on age discrimination in the workplace with Brookdale executive director Ruth Finkelstein; Brookdale senior fellow Peter Gosselin; Beth Finkel, the New York state director for AARP; and Maria Heidkamp, the director of program development and technical assistance at the Heldrich Center for Workforce Development at Rutgers University.

Senior researcher Mark Brennan-Ing gave a presentation on successful aging among transgender and gender nonconforming older adults. Dr. Brennan-Ing and Dr. Finkelstein also delivered the featured Walter M. Beattie symposium on cumulative advantage and disadvantage, as a lens for understanding health and economic inequality at later ages. Research coordinator Jennie Kaufman joined Dr. Finkelstein to present Brookdale’s Student-Older Adult Roommates (SOAR) demonstration program.
